Removing the hard drive Use these steps to remove the hard drive: Step 2 Loosen the captive Phillips screw that holds the hard drive in place. Step 3 Lift the hard drive handle and slide the cage to the side.
Then lift it up and remove it from the computer. Step 4 Remove the four screws, two on each side of the hard drive cage. Save the screws for hard drive replacement.
Turn off the computer. Disconnect the Ethernet or modem cable.
Disconnect the power cord. Transfer the computer to a clean, flat, stable work surface over a noncarpeted floor. HP recommends that you put down a blanket, towel, or other soft cloth to protect the screen from scratches or other damage.

Step 2 Secure the hard drive to the cage with four Philips head screws. Step 3 Find the four tabs on the underside of the drive cage.
Step 4 Find the four slots on the computer. Step 5 To replace the hard drive cage, align the four tabs over their slots and slide the cage firmly until the green release latch snaps back up into place. Step 6 Replace the access door.
